Jos\u00e9 Javier Esparza has made through his conference,\u00a0Mediocracy and the European Union,\u00a0<\/em>a complete interpretation of the concept and what it means within the European Union. \u201cThose of us who do journalism have grown up in the idea that the media had to comply with the neutral control of affinity with power, of power with itself, the famous idea of the fourth estate, the media was the example of a enlightened society\".<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Before the current times, \u201cthe media served as an interpretation of events, it seemed right or wrong, debate was generated and one could choose. This has changed in the last 25 years, a change that has been linked to the change in the concept of the European Union, which was born in a world in which the international scene was still talked about and today the framework is already transnational, and that changes it all\".

Esparza has affirmed that these two transformations, both in the media and in the European Union, \"are driven by the same process, that of the radical transformation of the world order in which we thought we lived.\"<\/div>\n

Just as the concept of capitalism is no longer what it was, what we have witnessed in recent years is that everything has changed subject, liberalism, is supposed to be an adequate framework because it is a theory of the limitation of power What we have seen is that what liberalism has become in recent years is a generation of powers.\u00a0<\/span>The liberal discourse has been broken, it cannot continue, the discourse of national sovereignties has ended up leading to a world where they do not paint anything in the power of the nation\u201d, in this sense Esparza has pointed out that \u201cin the last quarter of a century The media has nothing to do with the representation of its public, one does not set up a newspaper to defend the radical left and I make it Public, the medium is no longer an agent of public life, it is an agent of the market and it is not the agent of a free market, but of an oligopoliticized market of a few owners of the means of communication who are in tune with the globalizing world\u201d.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

In short, we are \u201cfacing a new type of global society that has been built, which has mutated capitalism, national sovereignties and the work of the media, which have become muezzins on the minaret of the ideology that suits this new system of power, which due to its global nature makes an individual become part of something, because it segments the market. It is that you can turn them into whatever you want, they intend to dissolve identities. Most of the media have to go through here because it is the only way to attend to the relevant funding sources\u201d.<\/p>\n

In the end \u201cit is the dictatorship of consent, consent is not necessary. The\u00a0<\/span>dictatorship of consent is different, aware and still inside, and the more the machine grows, the more powerful it becomes\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n

Esparza ended his speech by recalling that \"to the extent that we are able to make our compatriots see that there is a world outside that bubble and that the outside world is another, we can do something very important that\u00a0<\/span>is to bring our people back to reality.
